“We’re incredibly pleased with the excitement and awareness that the event generated, but more importantly that we were able to raise much needed funds for the foundation, and also donate our time and media to the tune of $28,000,” said Caplan. “There’s no better place to host a Derby event than at our historic Victorian property in the Heights, and no better audience than our readership to support such a fun and important afternoon. I can’t wait for next year.”

The Holly Rose Ribbon Foundation was founded in 2005 to provide free reconstructive surgery to post-cancer patients who are unable to afford health insurance. This non-profit 501 (c)(3) treats dozens of breast cancer patients every year.

The foundation has recently announced the creation of the Holly Rose Ribbon Foundation Scholarship Program, currently in development, along with expanded outreach programming for both children and adults. The new scholarships, benefiting students who have lost a parent due to breast cancer, will be awarded—starting at the end of 2014—to full-time University of Houston students.
